Sculpture 2001
GREAT CIRCLE #1 2001
Concrete and paint 225′ x 2′ x 8″ This site specific installation runs along a north-south meridian. In the S. T. Griswold Company Sculpture Park, in Williston, Vermont, it is near an international airport, and can be seen by passengers as airplanes approach or take off. I imagine the line is the beginning of a journey around our earth through both poles and back.
UNSPOKEN TRUTH FROM THE HEART 2001
steel 3′ x 4′; x 2′. My son, a Japanese Literature professor, helped me with the four-character inscription cut into the angle leg of the sculpture. It is a Chinese aphorism, directly translated meaning, “reaching enlightenment through the heart without using words”. My writer (and photographer) husband and I loosely translate it “unspoken truth from the heart”.
ODYSSEY OF LIGHT
Two 16′ tall aluminum poles with 6″ x 24″ focused mirror boxes create a sun-reflected cross at solar noon (the time in a day when the sun is at its highest) on spring and fall equinox, and on winter solstice. The cross falls at the center of the Community Labyrinth at All Saints Episcopal Church in South Burlington, VT.
