Mani Steel 2003
corten steel and regular steel, 4.5′ x 8′ x 3″ Om mani padme hum is the mantra of the Buddha of Compassion. Traditionally mantras appear on prayer flags, prayer wheels and carved mani stones. Anyone who sees, hears, or recites the six syllable mantra will receive its’ blessing. Prayer flags impart these blessings to the wind, and will bless whatever is touched by that wind.
ODE TO CHARLOTTE 2003
Steel, 19′ x 7.5′ x 6′ “See the Other Side”, a year long exibit in the lakeside glass tower at the new ECHO Science Center in Burlington, Vermont. The sculptures name, CHARLOTTE, is reference to a time when Lake Champlain was an inland sea and beluga whales inhabited the waters. In 1908 a whale skeleton was discovered in the small town of Charlotte south of Burlington. The skeleton, Delphinapterus Vermontanus, is displayed at the State House in Montpelier.

steel, 18 x 6.5 x 2 At the November 2003 opening ceremony U.S. Congress Representative Bernie Sanders was thanked for procuring a large grant from the Job Access/ Reverse Commute Program of the Federal Transportation Administration to help build new offices and car repair facilities in Burlington, Vermont.

This program accepts used car donations and thoroughly repairs them before passing them on to financially struggling individuals. The donors gain a tax deduction while offering a jump start to someone striving to become self-sufficient.
